Case 23: Simulating a Chest X-ray on CT Scan To Compare with Prior X-rays using “Mean” Projection
60-years old 40 pack-years history smoker - resolving an RUL lesion using the "mean" projection function
This is a 60-years old, 40-pack years history smoker with a spiculated complex lesion in the right upper lobe. The question was, whether this was a post-infectious lesion or a Lung-Rads 4A lesion that needed to be worked up.
There were earlier radiographs from 2015 and 2016 that showed a subtle right upper lobe / zone lesion unchanged from the recent 2021 radiograph. I used the "mean" projection method to approximate a radiograph from the soft tissue CT scan volume to gain more confidence about what this lesion actually was.
